organizations Involved in Hydroelectricity and Microhydro
The Low Impact Hydropower Institute (LIHI) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to reducing the impacts of hydropower generation through the certification of environmentally responsible, "low impact" hydropower. LIHI’s mission is to reduce the impacts of hydropower dams through market incentives. LIHI does this through its Low Impact Hydropower Certification Program, a voluntary certification program designed to help identify and reward hydropower dams that are minimizing their environmental impacts. Just as an organic label can help consumers choose the foods and farming practices they want to support, the LIHI
certification program can help energy consumers choose the energy and
hydropower practices they want to support.
The National Hydropower Association, founded in 1983, is the only trade association
in the United States dedicated exclusively to advancing the interests of hydropower energy in North America. Located in Washington, D.C., NHA is a member-driven association that accomplishes its policy work and outreach through the initiatives of its standing committees.
Hydropower
Is the power of moving water and comes in many forms from conventional to new emerging technologies of ocean, wave, tidal and hydrokinetic energy. Hydropower is a domestic source of clean, renewable, reliable and affordable electricity. It is more than electricity. Hydropower also provides recreational enhancements, flood control, and irrigation. It is an extremely important energy source that has significant growth opportunity in helping the nation meet new energy supply with a reliable and low-emitting, home-grown energy source. Hydropower is clean energy for a secure future.

One of the services we want to provide our EB members is a listing of Recommended Microhydro Contractors. If you have used a microhydro contractor for your home or business and were happy with their work please provide us their contact info by clicking
here and we will do the rest. As soon as we have a sufficient list together we will publish it on the site. Thanks! --Editor |

Harris Water Turbine
The multiple nozzle arrangement allows much more water to impact the runner resulting in greater output at any head, and more usable power at lower heads. Multi-nozzle systems include a PVC penstock and individual ball valves on each nozzle. The pelton type runner is lost wax cast of silicon bronze. The wheel is 70 - 90%
efficient, depending on nozzle size and head pressure. The bucket
shape allows high efficiency for nozzles and provides a flow range of
over 100/1. $1640 from Harris Hydroelectric.

| The use of hydroelectricity is growing. Today 6.6% of the total
electrical generation of the U.S. comes from hydro systems. In
Canada 20% of the energy comes from hyrdro. |
